DHAKA: Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad, the BNP-Jamaat backed blue panel, swept the election to Dhaka Bar Association, bagging all the 10 posts, including president and general secretary.

On the other hand, Awami League backed candidates only won nine posts of member out of 25.

Chief Election Commissioner, also former president of Dhaka Bar Association, Advocate Abdus Sabur declared the result on the Friday noon.

The winners of blue panel are- Rezaul Karim Nizam was elected Senior Vice-president, Jahir Rayhan Jasim Vice-president, Shamsuzzaman Treasurer, Abu Yusuf Sarker Senior assistant general secretary, Arifur Rahman Ranzu Assistant general secretary, Ahmad Ullah Aman Librarian, Afroz Alam Laki Cultural secretary and Shaheed Gazi Officer Secretary.

The two-day voting in Dhaka Bar Association election 2014-15 started from Wednesday morning at lawyers’ association auditorium of Dhaka Bar.

Some 71 candidates took part in the election under the banner of Awami League-backed white panel, BNP-Jamaat backed Blue Panel and Rebel candidates’ Green panel.

Besides, Independent candidate SM Nazrul Islam was fought for general secretary post.

Election Commissioner Shamim said that a total 14,310 lawyers, who were voters of Supreme Court Bar Association, cast their votes and last year which was 13,244.
