The government has decided to gradually nationalize all registered Ebtedayee madrasas across the country.

SM Masudul Haque, Joint Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division under the Ministry of Education, made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon following protests by Ebtedayee madrasa teachers at Shahbagh since Sunday, demanding nationalization.

On Sunday, at least five people were injured when police intervened to stop a group of Ebtedayee madrasa teachers marching towards the chief adviser's official residence to press for their demands. 

Law enforcement authorities used at least two sound grenades and water cannons to disperse the demonstrators.
