Chief Adviser’s Press Wing has debunked a report published by Indian news outlet Anandabazar Online, which speculated about the possibility of a military coup in Bangladesh.
In a post on its verified Facebook page, "CA Press Wing Facts," on Friday (January 31), the press wing said that Indian media is using hybrid warfare tactics to support Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted in the July-August coup, as she had long served as their proxy.
The statement accused Anandabazar of attempting to tarnish Bangladesh’s institutions and its people.
It further explained that hybrid warfare involves disinformation campaigns, where fabricated stories lacking credible sources are presented in a compelling way, making other media outlets believe and republish them, increasing their perceived credibility.
The press wing said that Anandabazar’s report on the Bangladesh Army had no factual basis and likened it to a Bollywood romantic comedy.
It challenged the publication to decide whether to practice journalism based on evidence or to spread misleading narratives that undermine the sovereignty and dignity of a friendly neighbor.
On January 30, Anandabazar Online published a report titled “Military Coup in Dhaka? Delhi Watching Closely”, suggesting that a faction within the Bangladesh Army was becoming active in seizing control. The report also claimed that India suspected a potential coup scenario in Bangladesh.
