Gazipur Metropolitan Police have banned the use of drones and drone cameras within a two-kilometer radius of the Ijtema ground for security reasons.
The directive was issued through a public notice signed by Police Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan on Sunday (Feb 2) evening.
According to notice, millions of devotees from home and abroad gather at the World Ijtema, and to ensure their safety and maintain law and order, no drones, drone cameras, or other electronic flying devices can be used in the restricted area from February 2 to February 18 without special permission from the police’s Counter Terrorism and Special Branch (CTSB). Legal action will be taken against violators.
Government agencies planning to use drones must inform the CTSB in advance about the number and timing of their drone operations, said the notice.
Earlier on Sunday morning, at least 40 people were injured in a panic caused by a loud noise during the concluding prayer of the first phase of the World Ijtema.
