Indefinite strike deadlocks DNMCH

DHAKA: The services of Dhaka National Medical College Hospital (DNMCH) halted as the employees, after the intern doctors, went on an indefinite strike on Sunday on Johnson Road in older parts of the city.

The staff of the hospital enforced the strike from Sunday morning at the main gate of the hospital by protesting against attacks on them and also on a demand of punishment of the attackers.

On the other hand, the intern doctors called strike for indefinite period demanding punishment of accused word boy on Saturday.

The agitated interns and the employees of the institution were abstained from their respective workplace from the morning.

The operations and other the emergency services of the hospital remained halted.

However, earlier on Saturday, the interns and employees of the hospital locked into a clash over a trifle matter.

Some 40 people from them were injured in the clash.

Joint Conveners of Karmachari Sangram Parishad Saddam Hossain and Abdul Auwal Khan said, “Our protest will continue until the demands are met.”

One of the interns Dr Aziz said, “We will keep on our indefinite strike until the justice comes against the accused and the hospital administration.”

Moreover, free treatment of the victims, setting up a police camp in the institution for security reason and ensuring safe and secured workplace for the doctors are on demands, he added.

During the clash some of the attackers snatched the camera from photojournalist of banglanews GM Mujibur and deleted the photos of vandalizing and violence.

The Director of National Medical College Hospital Captain MA Salam said there was a sum of loss Tk one crore approximately due to the violence.

The people who are involved in the violence will be penalized after a proper investigation, he assured.
