Three people, including a mother and her son, were killed in a collision between a bus and a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. 

The accident happened on Friday afternoon (February 7) in the Kanchpur area of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

The deceased were identified as Kakoli, 35, wife of Ashraful Alam from Sunamganj, her five-year-old son Arian Ahmed Rafi, and Anisur Rahman, 23, the auto-rickshaw driver from Pirgacha, Rangpur.

Kanchpur Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Wahid Morshed said the accident happened when a high-speed bus collided with the wrong-way auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-bound lane. All three passengers of the auto-rickshaw died on the spot.

The bodies were recovered and sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy, he said, adding police recovered the bus, the driver and helper fled the scene. 

Legal action is being taken regarding the incident, the official added.
