Dhaka, the overcrowded capital city of Bangladesh, has ranked third on the list of cities with the worst air quality.
This morning, at 8:55 AM, Dhaka's air quality score was 201. This score is classified as 'very unhealthy.' It means the air is dangerous for people's health."
The air quality worsened significantly compared to Saturday’s unhealthy AQI score of 177.
According to the AQI classification, scores between 201 and 300 are categorized as ‘very unhealthy,’ and readings above 301 are ‘hazardous,’ posing severe health risks.
India’s Delhi and Pakistan’s Lahore topped the list with AQI scores of 215 and 212, respectively, while the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Kinshasa ranked fourth with an AQI of 188.
Dhaka’s air quality typically worsens in winter and improves during the monsoon. The AQI is based on pollutants such as particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that air pollution contributes to approximately seven million deaths worldwide annually.
