A court in Dhaka has issued an arrest warrant through Interpol against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.
The order was issued on Monday (February 10), by Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Court, following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The application was filed by Investigation Officer Director Hafizul Islam, based on ACC's approval in the case of illicit asset acquisition.
On December 15, 2024, ACC filed four cases against Benjir Ahmed, his wife, and two daughters. In the case the family was accused of acquiring assets worth over 74 crore 13 lakh 39 thousand Taka that are not accounted for by known income, as well as hiding information about their wealth.
Earlier in March and April 2024, reports in a national daily highlighted allegations of Benjir Ahmed's illegal asset acquisition, including claims of having a resort on forest land and a mysterious wealth accumulation. Following these revelations, large amounts of his movable and immovable property were seized.
