‘Robber’ killed in Savar ‘gunfight’

SAVAR, DHAKA: A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight with police in Bank town bridge area adjacent to Dhaka-Aricha highway early Monday.

The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.

Police sources said that patrol team of Savar Model thana police chased a gang of dacoits of 10-12 while they were taking preparation for robbery in the area at around 2:30pm. At one stage of chasing, robbers hurled cocktails aiming police; then police also opened fire that triggered a gunfight.

A robber and four police men caught in the line of fire, leaving injured.

Later, the robber died at Savar Thana Health Complex under treatment.

Police, however, seized some lethal weapons and cocktails from the spot.

Savar Model Thana Officer-in-Charge Mostafa Kamal confirmed the matter to banglanews.
