Police verification on passports cancelled

The government has canceled police verification process for passport issuance to ensure hassle-free service for citizens.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a circular in this regard on Tuesday (February 18), signed by Additional Secretary of the Security Services Division, Kazi Golam Tousif.

According to the circular, for new passport applications, citizens will no longer require police verification. The process will now rely on online verification of National Identity Card (NID) information.

For Bangladeshis residing abroad and minors applying for a new passport, police verification will also be waived, with the application based on online verification of birth registration certificates.

Additionally, in cases of passport reissuance, if there are changes in the essential details (name, parent's name, date of birth, place of birth) from the existing passport, the passport will be issued using the information from the National Identity Card.

Previously, the Public Administration Reform Commission had recommended the removal of police verification for passport applications.
