Anisul, Mamun on remand in July uprising murder cases

A Dhaka court has placed former law minister Anisul Huq and former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on remand in two murder cases related to the July uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah granted three-day remands for both Anisul and Mamun in a case over the death of Jihad Hossain, 23, who was killed during the quota reform movement in Jatrabari on July 19 last year.

The case was filed by Jihad’s father, Nurul Amin Mollah, against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 84 others on September 3, 2024.

Besides, Anisul was placed on another three-day remand in a separate case over the death of Swechchhasebak Dal activist Wasim Sheikh, 38, who was killed in Jatrabari on July 18 last year.

The victim’s wife, Rehena Akter, filed the case against Hasina and 42 others on August 28, 2024.

The remand orders came after police submitted applications seeking their custody for further investigation.
