CA congratulates July girls on prestigious US award

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the resilient and courageous "July Girls"—the Women Student Protest Leaders of Bangladesh—on receiving a prestigious US award.

"On behalf of the interim government of Bangladesh, I offer my deepest congratulations to you all for being honoured with the 2025 United States Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award," he said in a press release issued by his office on Saturday (March 29).

Dr Yunus emphasized that this recognition serves as a testament to their exceptional bravery, leadership, and unwavering commitment during the student-led uprising in July-August 2024.

"Your actions in those defining moments truly embodied the essence of courage. As leaders of the protest movement, you were not just symbols of resistance but beacons of hope for a nation in turmoil," the statement noted.

He praised their unwavering determination in the face of violent repression, highlighting how they stood between security forces and male protesters, and devised innovative strategies to sustain their fight for justice—even amid an internet blackout.

"The strength, resilience, and determination you have shown continue to inspire countless individuals, both in Bangladesh and beyond," Dr Yunus remarked.

"Your selfless struggle reminds us all that the path to justice is never easy, but always worth pursuing. Through your courage and sacrifice, you have set an example of true leadership and paved the way for a brighter, more just future for Bangladesh."

Expressing the government’s immense pride, he described the award as a well-earned recognition of their unyielding spirit.

"The interim government stands with you, and together, we will continue striving for the ideals of democracy, justice, and freedom that you have so bravely defended.

"We look forward to seeing you at the forefront of Bangladesh’s future.

"Once again, congratulations on this remarkable achievement. You have made the entire nation proud," the statement concluded.
