The traditional Mangal Shobhajatra, organised by the Faculty of Fine Art at Dhaka University during the Bengali New Year celebrations, has been renamed Borshoboron Anondo Shobhajatra (Boishakh Festive Rally).

The announcement was made on Friday (April 11) at a press conference held at the Faculty of Fine Art. 

The convener of the New Year Celebration Committee, Kazi Azaharul Islam Sheikh, disclosed the change.

In a written statement, he said the new name aims to make the celebration more inclusive, reflecting Bangladesh’s diverse cultural heritage and the hopes and aspirations of people from all walks of life.

“This year’s New Year celebration belongs to every Bangladeshi,” he said.

The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Harmony in the New Year, End to Fascism’.
