The government has decided to ban the establishment of any new industrial plants or development projects within 10 kilometers of the Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) surrounding the Sundarbans.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will soon issue an official notification in this regard.

The decision was taken on Monday (April 21) during the 16th meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Environment and Climate Change Committee. 

The meeting was held at the Secretariat and chaired by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources.
