Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus left Dhaka for Doha on Monday evening (April 21) to participate in the Earthna Summit 2025.
According to Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the Chief Adviser and his delegation departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:00 pm.
Briefing the media earlier in the day at the Foreign Service Academy, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said Prof Yunus will have a packed schedule during his official visit to Qatar, scheduled for April 22 and 23.
“He will deliver a speech at the Earthna Summit 2025 and attend several high-level meetings during the tour,” Alam said.
The visit comes at the invitation of Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani. During his stay, Prof Yunus is expected to meet both the Amir and Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed.
His itinerary also includes meetings with representatives from Qatar Charity and Qatar Foundation, as well as an interview with Qatar-based Al Jazeera.
Alam said that discussions on enhancing cooperation in the energy sector are expected, especially in light of Bangladesh’s long-term LNG import agreement with Qatar.
On April 23, the Chief Adviser will attend an investment summit and speak at a conference on the Rohingya issue, where international stakeholders will also be present.
Prof Yunus is accompanied by Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, Energy Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, and Principal Coordinator for SDG Affairs Lamiya Morshed.
He is scheduled to return to Dhaka in the early hours of April 25.
