Adviser to the interim government, Asif Mahmud Shajib Bhuiyan, has said he has not yet decided to resign from his current post but will step down at a convenient time to join politics.
"I haven’t taken any decision to resign yet. I will actively join politics, leaving the job at my convenient time," Asif wrote on his verified Facebook page today (April 26).
Currently serving as the adviser for Sports and LGRD, Asif, a former president of Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad’s Dhaka University unit, added that he is not bound to join the newly-formed National Citizen Party (NCP), which emerged from a student movement.
He said he would choose the best option for the betterment of the nation and its people.
Earlier in the day, Asif spoke to reporters after inspecting a recruitment test at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in Dhaka.
In response to a question, he clarified that while his secretary has officially resigned following all necessary procedures, some media outlets have targeted him unfairly with misleading reports.
Asif, a key coordinator of the Students Against Discrimination platform, remains an influential figure among youth activists and has hinted at a more active political role in the near future.
