The government on Sunday (April 27) said Bangladesh wants India and Pakistan to resolve their ongoing tensions through dialogue.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Touhid Hossain said while speaking to reporters at his office.
He said Bangladesh maintains relations with both countries and hopes that they settle their disputes peacefully.
“Our position is very clear. We want peace in South Asia,” he said, adding that Bangladesh does not want any conflict that could harm the people of the region.
He further said that while some countries have already offered mediation, Bangladesh wishes for India and Pakistan to resolve the crisis either through direct talks or mediation.
When asked if Bangladesh is interested in playing a role in resolving the crisis, the adviser said Bangladesh will consider any mediation request but is not willing to take any step on its own.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated after a recent attack by an armed group in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which left 26 tourists dead. India has blamed Pakistan for the attack, a claim Pakistan has denied. Following the incident, both countries have taken countermeasures, including suspending trade and cancelling agreements.
