DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) postponed voting in 26 centers in 10 districts in the third phase upazila parishad elections following separate poll violence.
Election Commission assistant secretary Ashfakur Rahman made the disclosure while talking to journalists at EC secretariat on Saturday night.
The centers are Sizia High School and Poriket Government Primary School of Comilla, Olatoli Government Primary School and Dharappur Government Primary School of Feni, Pathor Government Primary School, Berkota Government Primary School, Majhigachha MM High School, Teguria Primary School, West Razargaon Primary School of Chandpur, Tarati Teripara Government Primary School, Shaheed Muktijoddha Government Primary School and Bandha Goalia Government Primary School of Mukagachha upazila of Mymensingh, Baro Chacha Government Primary School of Kuliarchar upazila of Kishoreganj, Menapur Government Primary School of Chandpur, Gopalpur Government Primary School of Charghat upazila of Rajshahi district, Hazarkoti Government Primary School of Manirampur in Jessore and North-West Char Martin Government Primary School of Kamalnagar Upazila of Laxmipur upazila, one from Bhola and three other polling centres from Barisal.
The voting in the third phase of upazila parishad elections is ended at 81 upazilas in 41 districts of the country on Saturday amid several incidents of violence.
People started casting their votes at 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without any break.
However, three people died in Bagerhat, Shariatpur and Netrokona districts and a few journalists were assaulted and several clashes between supporters of Awami Legaue and BNP-backed candidates were reported across the country.
