DHAKA: The voting in the third phase of upazila parishad elections ended at 81 upazilas in 41 districts of the country on Saturday afternoon.
The people started casting their votes at 8:00am and ended at 4:00pm without any break.
Army personnel were deployed from Thursday to keep the law-and-order situation normal in election areas. They will be kept deployed till Sunday.
The polls were scheduled to be held at 83 upazilas but election commission had postponed polls in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district due to violence and polls in Fenchuganj of Sylhet district due the problem of area demarcation.
However, two people were killed in separate polls violence at Madon upazila of Netrokona district and Sadar upazila of Bagerhat district on Saturday during the third phase upazila polls.
The deceased were identified as Meun Mia, 38, of Agpara village of Madon upazila of Netrokona and Manjurul Islam, 22, a college student and resident of the area.
Besides, two people sustained bullet injuries in a clash between supporters of Awami League-backed and BNP-backed candidates in Dagonbhuiyan upazila parishad election of Feni on Saturday morning.
A presiding officer, Khayrul Islam, was detained on charge of negligence in duty in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh district early Saturday.
The indent took place at 8:00am at Uttar Alipur High School vote center of Matubhuiyan Union over capturing the vote center.
Besides, the Election Commission (EC) postponed voting in nine centers in three districts in the third phase upazila parishad elections following separate poll violence.
Election Commission assistant secretary Ashfakur Rahman made the disclosure while talking to journalists at EC secretariat on Saturday afternoon.
The centers are Sizia High School and Poriket Government Primary School of Comilla, Olatoli Government Primary School and Dharappur Government Primary School of Feni, Pathor Government Primary School, Berkota Government Primary School, Majhigachha MM High School, Teguria Primary School and West Razargaon Primary School of Chandpur.
