A fire broke out on Monday evening at the Capital Siraj Center, a multi-storey shopping complex located in the Shantinagar area of Bailey Road in the capital.
The blaze was reported to the Fire Service and Civil Defence at 6:45pm, said Shahjahan Shikder, officer of the agency’s media cell.
According to initial reports, the fire originated at a restaurant in the area.
However, it was later confirmed to have started in the basement of the Capital Siraj Center, which houses multiple businesses on its lower floors.
Firefighters rescued three individuals who had become trapped on the rooftop due to heavy smoke.
The incident comes just over a year after a devastating fire at the Kacchi Bhai restaurant on Bailey Road on February 29, 2024, which killed 46 people, including children, teachers, lawyers, and journalists.
