The Police Headquarters has expelled one officer and suspended two others for their alleged role in allowing Awami League politician Abdul Hamid, who is accused in a murder case, to leave the country early Thursday.
Hamid reportedly flew to Thailand for medical treatment via Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with police clearance, despite being under investigation.
The expelled officer is an additional superintendent with Immigration Police. The suspended officials include the investigating officer in the murder case and a Special Branch officer.
The action follows a high-level government discussion and an internal probe, the Bangladesh Police said, citing failure to follow proper procedures.
Hamid and several AL leaders were named in a murder case filed in Kishoreganj on 14 January, after the AL regime was ousted on 5 August last year.
