11 districts at flood risk due to heavy rain: WDB

Heavy rainfall may cause flooding in 11 districts across the northern, northeastern, and east-central regions of the country, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre of the Water Development Board (WDB).

WDB issued the warning on Thursday (May 29).

WDB Executive Engineer Sardar Uday Raihan said that water levels in rivers such as Gomti, Muhuri, and Feni in Chattogram division may rise in the next two days. The Muhuri River may cross the danger level, raising the risk of flooding in low-lying areas of Feni district.

He said water levels in rivers like Sarigowain, Jadukata, Manu, Dhalai, Khwai, and Someswari in Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions may increase in the next three days. These rivers may flow above the danger level, which could flood low-lying areas in Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, and Netrokona districts.

In Rangpur division, the Teesta, Dharla, and Dudhkumar rivers are expected to rise over the next three days, with the Teesta possibly flowing near the danger mark. This may cause flooding in low-lying areas of Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, and Kurigram.
