DHAKA: Election Commission (EC) on Sunday placed a complaint against an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) to the Home Affairs Ministry for beating of an Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).

EC alleged that Lauhajang Thana Assistant Sub-Inspector Emdad beat Dr ATM Mahbubul Karim, the UNO of Gazaria upazila during the fourth phase of the upazila elections on the day.

In a written complaint to the ministry, EC asked the ministry to take action against ASI soon.

According to the complaint, the ASI has not only assaulted the UNO, but also destroyed polling materials.

Election management and coordination branch-2 of the EC assistant secretary Ashfaqur Rahman made the written complaint.
