Hearing held, order later

DHAKA: The hearing was held on Monday in a defamation case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for allegedly distorting history of liberation war terming Ziaur Rahman first President of the country.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Shamsul Arefin recorded the statement of plaintiff around 11:00am Monday.

After taking statements of two sides, the court said the order on the hearing will be given later in the day.

Some lawyers, including Khaleda’s lawyer Masud Ahmed Talikder opposed the filing of case.
 
Earlier, AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro- Awami League organisation, filed the lawsuit with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at 9:30am.
 
AB Siddique’s lawyer Rowshanara Shikder Daisy confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Earlier on March 27, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in her address at Engineering Institute in city, claimed that Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP, was the first President of the country.
