A Dhaka court on Saturday granted different terms of remand for two men accused in the killing of Rahat Hossain Rabbi, who was stabbed to death at a shisha bar in Banani.

The accused, Maksudur Rahman Hamza (26) and Abdul Malek Munna (27), were produced before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Israt Jenifar Jerin. The court granted a one-day remand for Hamza and a three-day remand for Munna, while police had sought 10-day remands for each.

The incident took place around 4:30am on Thursday (August 14) at the ‘360 Degree’ shisha bar. CCTV footage and police reports show that Rabbi was stabbed on the stairs of the building during an altercation with a group of young men.

Rabbi, 31, was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has been kept at the morgue of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Rabbi’s father, Robiul Awal, filed a case with Banani Police Station on Friday (August 15) in connection with the murder.

Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Russell Sarwar said the police are investigating the incident and have detained the two accused for further questioning.
