Indian envoy calls for deeper ties, regional integration with Bangladesh Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to a “stable, forward-looking and mutually beneficial” partnership with Dhaka, rooted in mutual respect and with people of both nations at its core.

Speaking on Monday to participants of the 2025 National Defence College (NDC) course in Dhaka, Verma urged India and Bangladesh to work together to strengthen their interdependence and turn their geographical proximity, growing economic capacity, and shared aspirations into “mutually rewarding opportunities.”

The envoy emphasised the two nations’ role as key regional economies driving integration through BIMSTEC, whose secretariat is based in Dhaka and which seeks to connect the growth potential of South and Southeast Asia.

Outlining India’s broader foreign policy and development strategy, Verma highlighted New Delhi’s focus on promoting international cooperation, reforming global governance, and advancing the interests of the Global South, while pursuing inclusive, sustainable, and rapid development at home.

He further underscored the long-term vision of India-Bangladesh ties under India’s “Neighbourhood First” and “Act East” policies, the MAHASAGAR doctrine, and its Indo-Pacific Vision.
