Court orders Interpol red notices against S Alam Group chairman, 2 others S Alam Group Chairman Mohammad Saiful Alam

A Dhaka court has ordered the issuance of Interpol red notices against S Alam Group Chairman Mohammad Saiful Alam and two of his brothers in connection with a major financial fraud case.

The directive was issued on Thursday (Sept 25) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Alongside Saiful Alam, the court also named S Alam Group Vice Chairman Abdus Samad and Director Mohammad Abdullah Hasan in the red notice request.

The move comes after the ACC’s Deputy Director Tahsin Munabil Haque formally applied for the red notices through the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to the ACC petition, the trio are accused of creating forged documents to secure loans worth BDT 10,420.77 crore (approximately USD 950 million) under the name of a company called AM Trading. The funds were allegedly siphoned off to S Alam Super Edible Oil Ltd.

The ACC said that the accused have already left the country, prompting the need for international alert notices to facilitate their arrest and extradition.

After reviewing the petition, the court granted the request and directed authorities to proceed with issuing red notices through Interpol via the Ministry of Home Affairs.
