‘Judges independent not above law’

DHAKA: Chief Justice Mozammel Hossain on Saturday opined that each judge of the country are independent, but not above the law.

He came up with the observation while addressing a programme of certificate distribution at Diploma Engineers’ Institute in the capital.

Indicating the lawyers, he said, “Constitution is the supreme law of any country. You are the officers of the court and you have to have clear concept on constitution and act maintaining etiquette. It’s an honorable profession.”

Justice Mozammel also said that without reading full verdict, sometime comments came from various quarters. “This free style comment on verdict is not fair,” he said.

The function was also addressed, among others, by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and BAR Council Vice-Chairman Khandaker Mahbub Hossain.
