Vehicular movement halted in 3 dists

DHAKA: Vehicular movements came to a halt in three northern districts-- Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, and Naogaon-- as transport strikes was underway separately from Tuesday morning.

Banglanews Thakurgaon Correspondent Firoz Amin Sarkar reports-- an indefinite transport strike was underway on all routes of the district.

Motor Owners’ Association, Motor Workers’ Union and Truck-Tank Lorry Union of the district called the strike.
 
The strike was enforced to press home their demands to stop plying of the locally made shallow pump-run vehicles, known as Nasiman and Kariman, and other illegal three-wheelers on the roads.

Communications from the different parts of the country with these districts came to a halt. All inter-district and long-distance buses services remained off.

The association and unions called the strike at joint meeting on Monday evening.

Firoz Amin Sarkar added that an indefinite strike began at Banglabandha land port of Panchagarh district on the morning demanding to stop extortions from the port’s porters and workers and plying battery-run and other illegal vehicles movement on the district.

District Motor Owners’ Association and Motor Workers’ Union    and 7 other organizations jointly called the strike on Monday night.

Our Naogaon Correspondent Shafique Chhutan said that bus services on  Naogaon-Bogra and Naogaon-Dhaka route remained off following a unsettled dispute over vehicle plying between the transport owners and workers of the district and Bogra. The strike entered into the second consecutive day.
