KUSHTIA: Miscreants shot a leader of Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) to death and injured an Awami League leader in Ahammadpur Bazar area of Mirpur upazila of the district at 6:00am Monday.

The deceased was identified as Ismail Hossain Panzer, 55, a former vice president of the upazila JSD unit, of Ahammadpur area while the injured was Shafiqul Islam, general secretary of Poradha AL unit of the upazila.

Victim’s son Mitul said his father went out for walking in the morning as usual; having finished the walking, he sat on a tea-stall, adjoining to their house, Shafiqul was there too.

At that time, three miscreants riding on a motorcycle came there, fired three rounds of bullets on his chest; seeing them, Shfiqul began shouting and then the miscreants fired another round of shot to him and ran away.

Locals rushed them to the Kushtia General Hospital where on-duty doctor pronounced Panzer dead.

Shafiqul was in critical condition and sent to Dhaka for better treatment, hospital sources said.

Mirpur Thana Officer-In-Charge Shahidul Islam told banglanews “Pazer was a listed terrorist and was accused in 10 more different cases including murder and granted bail in a killing case on March 20.”

Panzer had an enmity with one Dulal over establishing dominance in the area, Shahidul added.
