DHAKA: The government has undertaken a project involving Tk 200 crore to clean the Buriganga River.
Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju came up with the disclosure on Sunday while addressing a grand-rally at Haymontee conference room of his office in the capital.
Bangladesh Forest Officers Executive Association and Bangladesh Forest Guard Welfare Association jointly organized the grand-rally.
Anwar Hossain Manju said, “We have taken a project of Tk 200 crore to clean the Buriganga River, but the river will never be a clean one no matter how many projects are implemented.”
He told his audience: “At first we have to halt dumping of wastages into the river and thus Buriganga will be pollution free.”
Presided over by Forest Ranger, and also Bangladesh Forester Executive Association president M Moktaruzzaman, Chief Conservator of Forests Yunus Ali, and Forest Guard Welfare Association president Absul Hye, among others, spoke at the function.
