DHAKA: Former President, also Prime Minster’s special envoy HM Ershad on Tuesday appeared before a Dhaka court in a hearing on much-talked-about Major General MA Manzoor murder case.

Meanwhile, state prosecutors sought another three months for further investigation to submit report. Tuesday was the day for submitting the report.

Public prosecutor of the case Asauduzzaman Rochi told banglanews they need more time to finish the investigation, so they applied for 3 months.

The case hearing is underway at the court of Dhaka First Additional District and Sessions Judge Court near Dhaka central jail.

Two other accused of the case Major (rited) Kazi Emdadul Haque and Lieutenant Colonel (rited) Mosta Kamal Bhuyan also appeared before the court along with Ershad, the prime accused in the case.

On June 1, 1981, Manzoor was killed at Chittagong Cantonment. Some 14 years after the killing, a case was filed with Panchlaish Police Station on February 28, 1995. Later, the case was transferred to Dhaka on security reasons.

Earlier, the court had recorded statements from 28 out of 49 people, court sources said.

Ershad, on April 2, 2012, claimed himself innocence in the killing.
