Writ filed for stopping construction

DHAKA: A writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking its directives to stop construction works and evicting all illegal infrastructures from capital’s Dhanmondi playground.

Architect Mobasser Hossain among six others jointly filed the petition as public interest litigation on Monday.

The hearing is scheduled to be held with HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Habibul Gani Tuesday.

Barrister Sara said that on March 15, 2011, the High Court in a verdict ordered to evict illegal infrastructure to open the ground for all. But the officials of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club paid no heed.

Later, on May 27, 2013, the Supreme Court issued a show cause notice in the regard but the Club Officials did not show any interest.

On the other hand, various environmental and professional organizations staged rallies and human chain programme, demanding the field to open for all.
