Saima Wazed joins Int’l seminar

DHAKA: Saima Wazed Hossain, Chair of the Advisory Committee of Autism and Neuro-developmental Disabilities in Bangladesh, participated in an International Seminar on autism with the theme ‘Autism is not a Tragedy, Ignorance is’ in Putrajaya of Malaysia from April 22-23.

The seminar, jointly organized by Permata, Autism Speaks, New York and University Kebangsaan Malaysia, was designed to raise awareness on autism and to formulate action with local communities.

Renowned scientists and experts on autism from around the globe including from USA, Malaysia, Australia, China, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and Brunei attended the seminar as speakers, panelists and resource persons.

Besides, attending the seminar, Saima Wazed, also daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, attended a number of programmes.

Saima also sat for bilateral meetings with Malaysian Minister for Women, Family and Community Development and Minister for Health at their offices.

During the meeting, Saima Wazed also exchanged views on the possibilities of knowledge sharing and in the fields of Autism management and education for autistic children between Bangladesh and Malaysia.

Saima also emphasized to develop indigenous modules and therapies instead using western ones to manage autism.

Saima also expressed Bangladesh’s keen interest to join the Autism initiative and cooperate with Permata Kurnia in the forth coming programme of international intervention for autistic children.
