Sylhet city mayor Arif hospitalized

SYLHET: Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury has been admitted to the city’s Mount Adora Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Family sources said that Ariful Haque suddenly became ill and complained with chest pain while on his way back to home after attending the monthly meeting of Sylhet Diabetic Hospital around 8:30pm Friday.

A medical board was formed to observe his treatment under the supervision of Professor Brigadier (Retd) Dr MA Malik. The board consisted of Dr MA Rakib, Dr M A Ahbab, Dr Pabitra Kumar Kundu, Professor Dr Sahabuddin, Dr Shishir Bashak, Dr Shudhangshu Ranjan Dey, Dr Aminur Rahman Lashkar, Dr Najrul Islam and Dr Akhtaruzzaman.

Doctors said that the mayor is referred to Dhaka as his condition is critical. Ariful is likely to be rushed to Dhaka by air ambulance on Saturday morning, family sources added.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Sylhet City Chief Health Officer Dr Sudhamoy Majumder said that the mayor is in a critical condition so he is being treated by the guidance of the medical board.
