DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed on Monday said the national voter list would be updated from May 15.

The chief election commissioner came up with the disclosure while addressing a press conference at his office in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area in city.

The CEC said the task would be completed by December and those who will be 18 years old by January, 2015 are eligible for being enlisted as voters in the list.

He added the total process will be completed in the three phases—in 1st 200, 2nd 200 and the rest in the 3rd.

Mentioning ‘those who couldn’t enlist their names as voters last time they will also be able this time’ Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said, “EC will arrange a huge publicity for voter list update.”

He further said EC would collect information over going door to door but if someone enlists as a voter in more than one places, they will be brought under action.

The CEC further mentioned that it would take some years to provide smartcard to the citizens as the government is keen to ensure high quality smartcards.
