Acquittal order of 69 in BDR case challenged

DHAKA: State prosecutor Wednesday filed an appeal with the High Court seeking cancelation of acquittal order of 69 accused in BDR mutiny case and urging to punish them.

Deputy attorney general Farhad Ahmed confirmed the matter of filling of the appeal to banglanews.

Farhad said, “On November 5, 2013, 278 were acquitted from the charge as their involvement was not proved, of them, cancelation appeal was made against 69 at the HC.”

The appeal would be placed at the HC bench of Justice M Rezaul Haque and Justice Gabindra Chandra Tagore in next week, he added.

On November 5, 2013, a special court in Dhaka awarded death to 152 including a deputy assistant director of Bangladesh Rifles and life imprisonment to 161 others for their involvement in 2009 mutiny in border force.

A total of 74 people, including 57 army officers in command of the border-security force, were killed in the bloody mutiny at Pilkhana on February 25-26, 2009. The mutiny had also triggered revolt in other garrisons across the country.

Lalbagh police station OC Nabajyoti Khisa filed the cases first with Lalbagh police station and then with New Market police station.
