DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, on Saturday expressed hope that closed cinema halls would reopen with the assistance of the government.
The premier came up with the assertion in the award giving ceremony of National Film Award-2012 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in city.
She also advised Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu to take necessary actions in this regard.
The premier also said the incumbent AL government has taken many initiatives realizing the importance of cinema as it reiterates the voice of society and culture.
Sheikh Hasina also urged the film directors to use digital methods in cinema making.
She also told her audience that the AL government in 1996 took initiatives for developing the sector.
The National Film Award is the most prominent film award ceremony in Bangladesh established by Government of Bangladesh in 1975.
