7-murder case IO show caused

NARAYANGANJ: A District court issued a show cause letter to investigation officer to explain within four days why the accused two former RAB officers were not shown arrested in sensational Narayanganj 7-murder case.

Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court judge KM Mohiuddin issued the notice to the investigation officer (IO) order Officer-in-Charge of Narayanganj district Mamunur Rashid Mandal. 

However, earlier on Saturday, police arrested two accused in section 54, former Commanding Officer of RAB 11 Tareq Sayeed Mohammad and Major Arif Hossain from Dhaka Cantonment of the capital.

They were sent to the court and sought a 10-day remand plea where the court granted a five-day remand each.

On the other hand Detective Branch (DB) police detained Lieutenant Colonel MM Rana, who was on deputation in Rab-11 in Narayanganj accused from Dhaka Cantonment in the city around 1:30am on Sunday.

Earlier, the High court asked inspector general of police to take steps to arrest the trio and hand them over to the detectives investigating the sensational case.

The order was faxed to the IGP's office around 9:30pm Sunday, Supreme Court Registrar AKM Shamsul Islam said.

The trio Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana - were sent on deputation from RAB-11 on April 29 and forced into retirement on May 6 with all service benefits.

On April 30, seven bodies including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his four aides and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river.

They were kidnapped from Dhaka-Narayanganj link road on April 27.

The president of District Bar Association Shakhwat Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
