2 sisters drown in Bakkhali river

RAMU, COX’S BAZAR: Two minor siblings drowned in Bakkhali River in Bandorjar Kom area of the upazila on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Nargis Akther, 09, and Anisa Akther, 07, daughters of Moulana Enam Ullah of the Purbapara village of Kawarkhop union of the upazila.

Ramu upazila Nirbahi officer (UNO) M Masud Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews. 

Nargis was a class-IV student while Anisa class-III student of local Jamiatul Chaliha Balika Madrasa.

Members of Fire Service and Civil Defense, with the assistance of locals, recovered the bodies at 9:00am Tuesday.

Local Union Parishad member Mohammad Aziz told banglanews, “They went for bath at the river on Wednesday noon to relive from excessive heat waves and later, their bodies were recovered some 19 hours after they went missing.”
