BD gets UN peacekeeping mission award

NEW YORK: United Nations Association-USA and Better World Campaign jointly awarded Bangladesh for its outstanding contribution to the UN Peacekeeping Operations around the globe.

The award was given in a congressional felicitation under the banner of ‘Thanks a peace Keeper’.

Naim Uddin Ahmed, Political Councilor of Bangladesh Ambassador to USA, received the award. 

Apart from Bangladesh, the award was given to India, Spain, Germany, Ghana, Morocco, Ethiopia and Jordan.

Democrat Congressman of California Sam Farr, Rhode Island Congressman David Cicilline and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of Bureau of International Organization Affairs Victoria K Holt were among others present in the ceremony.

A total of 7,950 Army men of Bangladesh have been working in UN Peacekeeping Operations in Liberia, South Sudan, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire and Lebanon.

The award was given on the eve of May 29, International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
