DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque Thursday sounded a note of warning that the officers concerned wouldn’t be spared if cases were not taken despite bringing genuine allegations.

“Officials concerned will not be shown even ‘Zero tolerance’ if any evidence of not registering case is found in any police station,” said the city police boss while addressing monthly discussion on crime at police telecom auditorium of Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital.

More often than not, allegations were found with different police stations regarding case filing, he noted.

Replying to a question about missing BNP ward commissioner Chowdhury Alam, Shahidul Haque said police are giving all-out effort to find him out. “As per the case, Chowdhury Alam had been abducted and investigation in this regard is on.”  

The number of cases filed in June is less than the cases filed in the previous month. A total of 1,891 cases on different issues were filed in June while in May the number was 2050. A total of 5402 persons were arrested in different cases, the DMP commissioner told the meeting.

He said the volume of cases is on the decline in proportion to curbing general crimes. Besides, community police also are working.

The DMP commissioner said the incidence of cases on dowry is increasing because of family feuds.

“Only Thana and DB police arrested 29 persons, recovered 29 illegal arms and filed 17 cases in this regard in June. Some 601 cases were filed on drug recovery and 731 persons were arrested in this connection. A total of 45 vehicles were stolen, 45 cases were filed and 49 persons were arrested,” he added.

High officials of police attended the monthly discussion.
