MBSTU students stage demo for electricity

TANGAIL: Student at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) on Wednesday staged demonstration and carried out vandalism at the campus demanding uninterrupted power supply.

The students also demanded to shift the class rooms and teachers’ lounge from the cafeteria-cum-library of the campus.

Campus sources said that the students had been staging demonstration since May 24 to press home their 2-point demand. 

On Wednesday, they had a meeting with the authorities on the matter, where university’s vice–chancellor, proctor were present. The students left the meeting at 2:00pm after it ended fruitless.

Subsequently, the angry students vandalized three cars used by the teachers including a car of the vice chancellor, a microbus and five motorcycles. They also broke window glasses and furniture inside the administrative building of the campus.

Students staged demonstration and set fire to tyres in front of the university main entrance. 

Confirming the matter to banglanews, university proctor Dr. Khademul Isalm said, “The students differed with the authorities, left the meeting and started vandalism in the campus.”

Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. However, no causality was reported.

Meanwhile, the authorities again sat down in a meeting to talk about the students’ demands.

“A meeting is underway on the matter,” said the proctor.
