BANDARBAN: A tense situation is prevailing at Naikkhangchari frontier of the district following a day after Myanmar Border Police (BGP, former NASAKA) shot dead a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) man. 

Additional BGB personnel were deployed in the border area to tackle any attack by the Myanmar border police.

All Bangladeshi people were asked to leave the frontier area to avoid any causality during unwanted fight between the two border forces.

Naikkhangchari UNO Abu Sayeef M Abdulla confirmed the matter to banglanews.  

BGB regional commander brigadier general Ahammad Ali and Cox’s bazaar sector commander colonel Farid and other senior officers are staying in the area.

 When contacted, mobile phone of the BGB regional commander was found switched off.

Earlier on Friday, BGP exchanged fire with BGB in Naikkhangchari frontier of the.

The gunfight started around 3:00pm near international pillar no. 52 at Panchhari border after BGP denied handing over the body of BGB member, whom they shot dead on Wednesday after abduction.

Tension was mounting on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border since Wednesday night after Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) opened fire at BGB patrol teams at a Rohingya refugee camp near the border.

After the incident, a BGB trooper, Nayek Md Mizanur Rahman, hailed from Velanagar village under Mohanpur union of Comilla, was reported missing.
