Sirajganj: A defamation case was filed here Wednesday against State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam for calling BNP founder President Ziaur Rahman ‘Pakistani spy’.

District Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum general secretary Advocate Meer Ruhul Amin filed the Tk 5,000 crore case with Sirajganj Judicial Magistrate Court-1 in the morning.

Court sources said senior judicial magistrate Dipak Kumar Roy did not take the case in cognisance till the time when the report came at 2pm.

The State Minister recently made the comment over the role of the slain President, Ziaur Rahman, during the 1971 Liberation War. He said Zia, whom his faithful admires as the proclaimer of independence, had worked as an undercover agent of Pakistan during the war.

A few days back, the first damage suit on this score was filed against the state minister for law in Comilla.
