DHAKA: Students of public and private universities of the country have conducted an eight-month long special research project, arranged by University of California-San Diego (UCSD) and Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on ‘Role of Film and Journalism’ in establishing world peace.

Students from the 27th batch of Media and Communication Department of IUB, students of Journalism departments of Chittagong University and Rajshahi University and American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) students conducted the research.

Vice Chancellor of IUB Professor M Omar Rahman distributed certificates among the IUB students who participated in the research project in a programme on Thursday morning.

Addressing the function, Professor Omar said scope of working of public-private university students together or with foreign universities is rare.

“This is a better platform and I hope students have learned something from this research project,” he observed.

The IUB VC also welcomed the initiatives by UCSD to raise public awareness about the role of films and journalism in establishing world peace.

Dean of Liberal Arts and Social Science Faculty Zakir Hossain Razu said this was a unique experience for the participants where they have faced many unfriendly situations. “I hope their future works will reflect these experiences,” he said.

UCSD representative Walid Sherjai congratulated the students for their excellence in producing short films with success and movies.

Head of Media and Communications Department Dr GM Shahidul Alam said, “I am sure that the students will impart their experiences around the globe and make quality films.”

Later, UCSD distributed certificates among the IUB teachers, including Vice-Chancellor, who participated in the research project.
