Online policy soon, Inu tells JS

FROM JATIYA SANGSAD: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Thursday said the government is going to finalize a policy for the online news portals.

The minister, also lawmaker, made the assertion while addressing parliament in response to a question from lawmaker Amina Islam MP.

He also told the House that a present some 83 online news portals are active in the country. 

Inu also said the ministry issued Media Accreditation Card for all 83 online portals. 

“A committee led by chief information officer, has been formed on October 16, 2012 to compose ‘Online Media Policy’. Later, on January 20, 2013 the committee was rearranged,” the House was told.

He also said, “A sub-committee, led by Computer Samity President Mostafa Jabbar, also has been formed to help the committee, has submitted a draft of policy which will be finalized soon.”

Inu also said the government is concerned about the residential problem of journalists and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works was requested to take proper steps in this regard.
