DHAKA: Former Justice of the Appellate Division of Supreme Court Bijan Kumar Das passed away at the Apollo Hospitals on Thursday. He was 71.

The Secretary of Press Council Shyamol Chandra Karmakar confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He served as the adviser to the Caretaker Government in 1991 that oversaw the 6th general elections and served as one of the judges of Bangabandhu killing case.

Justice BK Das went on retirement from the post of justice in 2010 and joined as Chairman of Press Councilor.

The Chief Justice of Supreme Court Muzammel Hossain along with other Justices mourned at his death.

Family sources said he will be buried at Sylhet.
