DHAKA: At least ten people, including four member of a family, were burnt to death when two groups of Bihari locked into clashes at Kalshi in city’s Pallabi area early Saturday over blasting fireworks on the occasion of the holy Shab-e-Barat.
Dhaka Metropolitan police Mirpur Zone deputy commissioner Imtiaz Ahmed confirmed the death news but he is yet to confirm about the death toll.
On the other hand, two banglanews correspondents witnessed 9 charred bodies on the spot. And banglanews DMCH correspondent reports that body of a man, named Azad, 35, was taken to there.
Other deceased were identified as Maruf, 3, his mother Sahani, 23, her mother Baby, 40, Shahani’s sister Afsana, 22, Ruchi,10, Ruchi’s brother Ashiq, 22, Ashiq’s wife Shikha, 19, and 11-month-old twins Lalu & Bhulu.
Dhaka district deputy commissioner told banglanews that the deceased were members of three families.
Besides, Mirpur-12 Kurmitola Pakistani Camp Joint secretary Abdus Sattar told banglanews that of the deceased, three are children, two are women and five are men.
The bodies were kept at an office of Bihari, located at the Mirpur stranded Pakistanis’ camp.
Bihari youth Husein, form the office, told banglanews that his relative Abdul Quader along with three of his family members was burnt alive.
Following the clash, vehicle movement on roads in Kalshi and adjacent areas has been halted.
Witnesses said the clash erupted between them around 7:00am, which later spread into the locals and during the clash some houses were torched and looted, leaving scores injured.
Of them, three bullet-wound --Aslam,50, Badar Uddin, 45 Arju, 16,-- were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Besides, a woman, named Farzana, was admitted to DMCH with severe burn injuries on her mouth and different part of the body.
People who rushed Farzana to hospital said, four family members of Farzana were feared trapped in the house.
On information, police rushed in and are trying to bring the clash under control.
Pallabi thana police said suddenly, the clash has been erupted between the groups.
But no casualty was reported from the incident, said duty officer SI Mahabubul Huq of the thana.
