JICA to lend Tk 9,196Cr for 5 projects

DHAKA: A deal has been signed as per which Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will lend Tk 9,196 crore for five projects of Bangladesh.

Secretary M Mesbah Uddin of Economic Relations Department (ERD) on behalf of Bangladesh and Mikio Hatada from JICA signed the agreement in a city hotel on Monday.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith, State Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Nasrul Hamid, Interim Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Hirioki Minami and JICA President Akihito Tanaka were present on the occasion.

The five projects are Construction of Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal-Fired Power Plant that will cost Tk 3,154.26 crore, Contributing Stable Supply and Efficient Use of Natural Gas which will cost Tk 1,793.68 crore, Assisting City Corporation Economic Activities costing 2,332.75 crore, Reducing Flood Damage in the Haor Areas that will cost Tk 1,160.67 crore and Improving Agricultural Productivity and Diversifying Crops costing Tk 753.77 crore.
